Noida: Police have busted a land fraud racket in Jarcha and arrested three people accused of property scams worth more than Rs 3 crore on Friday. The accused allegedly used forged documents to illegally sell land parcels by impersonating the original owners.
DCP (Greater Noida) Pravin Ranjan Singh said police were receiving complaints for over a month about a gang involved in land fraud. “A special team was formed, and the three suspects, Pradeep Rana (53) Jyotsana (42) and Khushboo Devi (45) were arrested,” he said.
Police said during the probe, they found that the gang targeted plots with little surveillance, especially those owned by people living outside the city. They procured ownership details and created forged registry documents in the names of gang members before selling the land to unsuspecting buyers.
Officers said the gang has over 25 members posing as landowners, brokers and middlemen. In one case alone, a buyer was cheated of more than Rs 3 crore.
One of the people arrested, Rana, has 19 criminal cases against him under charges of cheating, murder and Arms Act violations, registered in Greater Noida and Ghaziabad, while the two women had five fraud cases each at Jarcha police station.
Police seized an SUV, mobile phones and SIM cards from their possession. Police are trying to identify other victims and members of the gang.
