Schools teach kids about use of banks, ATMs

NAVI MUMBAI: City schools are now keen on providing practical knowledge about importance of saving money and banking as part of their extracurricular activities in the wake of demonetisation.

Some schools in the city have decided to teach the pre-primary and primary class students about basics of banking and how

ATMs

work.

In fact, one school has installed an ATM model to teach children on how money is withdrawn. Another school is also teaching kids how stock market works.

“Following the demonetisation, many students have become curious about how

banks

and ATMs work and realized the importance of having the technical knowledge. Imparting the basic knowledge will help them to face the system,” said J Mohanty, principal, Delhi Public School, Nerul.

The principal of Euro School in Thane, Rajani Pattabhiraman, said that depending on the students’ age, they teach them about banking, starting with basics like what is a bank account among other concepts. “As far as demonetisation is concerned, the students are being made aware about purchasing power and the value of currency,” she said.

, principal of Birla School, Kalyan said that the aim is to make the students confident about going to a bank or using ATM. “We are installing an ATM model in the school and we are also introducing a virtual bank system in our school, which will help students to learn about banking process,” said Jhangra.
