NAVI MUMBAI: NRI Coastal police have booked two truck drivers and their employers for allegedly transporting illegally excavated sand without paying the royalty for sand mining in Panvel creek on a complaint by circle officer of Panvel tehsildar office Ganesh Telange.
On January 25, at 5pm, a vigilance squad intercepted a truck on Uran-Belapur road and found four brass quantity of sand worth Rs 56,380.
When asked for the royalty payment receipt, the driver sped away. Then at 11pm, Telange and his team caught a truck loaded with five brass quantity of ‘wash sand’ worth Rs 70,475.
As driver Pradeep Verma said he had not paid royalty for sand transportation, Telange took the truck keys. But whenthey moved ahead, he used a spare key and drove away.
