Navi Mumbai duo champs at tennis series

NAVI MUMBAI: City duo Durva Deo and Drumil Thakkar won the Nerul Gymkhana-organized All India Ranking Talent Tennis Series on Monday. Deo and Thakkar came up trumps in girl's and boy's groups respectively. In the under-12 boy's final, Thakkar beat Vikrant Mehta 7-5, 6-1 to win the title whereas Deo outperformed Kenny Brooke 6-4, 6-3 to clinch the girl's title.Earlier in the semifinals, Thakkar beat Pachpund 4-1, 4-0 . In the girl's group, Deo got the better of Naishi Shah 5-3, 4-2 as Sana Khanna lost to Brooke 0-4, 0-4.
"The tournament had over 200 top junior players from across the country vying for titles. This overwhelming response has encouraged us to make the event an annual feature to promote tennis in the region. We are going to host the under-14 competition soon," said Harsharan Singh, chief organizer.
