Two killed in accident on expressway

Navi Mumbai: A tempo driver and his co-driver were killed after the driver lost control of the vehicle and rammed into an unidentified vehicle plying ahead of it in the Bhor ghat at Khopoli on Friday around 4.15 am. The driver of the other vehicle, into which the tempo had crashed, sped away from the spot without informing the police. Yogesh Bhosale, Assistant police inspector of highway Safety patrol, Bhor Ghat unit said that the deceased tempo driver has been identified as Anil Gavit (27), a resident of Silvassa and the co-driver as Aniket. API Bhosale said, "The tempo's driver cabin got badly mangled due to the impact of the crash. Hence, it seems like the tempo had rammed into some heavy or multi-axle vehicle. The victims were rushed to Khopoli Civic Hospital, where they were declared brought dead on arrival. —George Mendonca
