NAVI MUMBAI:

Dehrang dam

under PCMC started overflowing from Sunday night owing to heavy rainfall in the

hill area.

The gates of the dam have been opened to allow the water to flow into Gadhi river.

On account of this, normal water supply will be restored in the area from Wednesday. PCMC water supply department engineer R Tayde said, “Dehrang dam started overflowing on Sunday night. Hence the gates have been opened.”

Heavy rain fall in Matheran hill area led to more water flow into

Dehrang

dam.

Raigad district

disaster management officer Sagar Pathak said, “Around 155mm rainfall was recorded in Matheran and 158.5mm in Panvel on Sunday.”

PCMC water committee president Nilesh Baviskar said, “Water supply to Old Panvel will be normalised from Wednesday. The alternate day water supply will also be reversed. To reduce muddied water supply to residents the gates are being opened.”

Gadhi river, which originates from Dehrang dam, has been flowing with full capacity due to the opening of the gates of the dam.
