Cerebral palsy

Gitin

Pillay’s determination and willpower. The wheelchair-bound paraplegic 25-year-old

Sanpada

resident recently completed his MBA in

finance

with grade A score.

Gitin, who cleared both BCom and BCA together, has become an inspiration for many special youngsters.

He gives all the credit to his parents and is thankful for the support extended by his professors. Parents Shreelata and Pramod never made Gitin feel any different. They would give him responsibilities like washing his own clothes, serving food to guests, even cooking and cleaning chores.

Gitin was always motivated to do activities like colouring, writing, cycling and playing with friends. He was introduced to the computer at the age of 5 so that he would develop an interest in the internet. Although a slow writer, writing has been Gitin’s passion.

In one of the entries in his diary, Gitin says: “10th board exam was turning point of my life where I scored 82% and that was very important for me to discover myself. My achievement was covered by many vernaculars as well as channels. After watching those the Principal of a CBSE school invited me to take admission in that school in HSC. I scored nicely securing 72% using a writer in exam.”

In 2004, he underwent a major surgery of both his legs to correct his posture. On his 18th birthday, he got his motorized wheelchair, which increased his confidence and helped him in his higher studies. Due to the absence of a wheelchair ramp in most colleges, Gitin had to wait for a few months before getting admission in a Vashi college where he did his BCA and BCom at one go. “I also did various additional courses and topped in my batch. I had good peers who also wanted me to do well in life,” he said.

Gitin also enrolled in training courses for government recruitment exams. Completing MBA was another milestone for Gitin. At present, Gitin is learning online trading on his own. He has started looking for a job and has travelled extensively in the country.
