Navi Mumbai: 6-day education trip on cards for woman corporators

NAVI MUMBAI: The women corporators from the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) are all set to take off on their first official junket after their 5-year tenure.

The civic administration has planned a 6-day educational trip to Gangtok and Kolkatta municipal corporation for its 65 women corporators.

The NMMC has pegged the expenditure at over Rs 38 lakh, inclusive of air fares. “The Women Child Welfare Committee had proposed a trip for its members, along with other women corporators. While the administration has worked out the itinerary, but it is yet to get an approval from the general body. The proposal will be discussed at the upcoming meeting,” said municipal commissioner N Ramaswami.

The administration has even sought for a 4-star hotel accommodation. The criteria is, however, to be reviewed. “The trip will be economical and therefore the inclusion of 4-star hotels,” said Ramaswami.

“Gangtok is one of the 90 cities to be participating in the Smart City competition. This will be ideal for us to learn about the measures incorporated towards cleanliness. To learn about the administration in other municipal corporation’s we zeroed in on Kolkata,” said a senior women corporator.

However, not all women corporators are in favour the trip. The expenditure has been termed as unnecessary.
