Four Navi Mumbai powerlifters win two gold, a silver and a bronze at national event

NAVI MUMBAI: Four athletes including a female player from the city returned with medals from the recently held

Senior Classic National Power Lifting Championship

at Jammu.

They include

Palvinder Singh

, Vishwajeet Singh,

Sagar Gawankar

and

Shital Shastri

. Navi Mumbai was richer by two gold, a silver and bronze. The only female athlete from the city, Shital made her medal debut at the nationals with a silver.

Taking the lead, international medalist and Shivchhatrapati awardee Palvinder clinched gold in his 83kg weight group but missed the coveted strongman title by a narrow margin.

He lifted an accumulated weight bar of 667.5kg in various events. Sagar too made it to the gold bracket in 93kg class, lifting 175kg in bench press. He was followed by Vishwajeet who brought home bronze medal in 120kg class. —B B Nayak
