Nashik: Water supply remains disrupted in several parts of Nashik city nearly two weeks after the two-day shutdown by the civic body, prompting sharp criticism from corporators cutting across party lines.
Corporators have complained of irregular and inadequate water supply, with low pressure and, in many areas, no tap water at all. Several elevated service reservoirs remain only half-filled, resulting in inadequate pressure in the distribution network and forcing residents to depend on tankers.
The issue dominated the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) general body meeting on Monday, where members held heated discussions for over two hours, expressing serious concern over the functioning of the civic body's water supply department and demanding immediate corrective action.
Mayor Himgauri Aher directed senior water supply officials to urgently restore normal distribution across all divisions. She also ordered an increase in tanker deployment in all six municipal divisions to ensure water reaches affected areas until the system stabilises.
BJP corporator Priyanka Mane said Ward 3 in the Panchavati division has been facing acute shortages for over a month. "Residents are getting water at very low pressure and, in some places, muddy water is being supplied.
The department must prepare a proper plan and ensure adequate supply," she said.
Corporator Suvarna Matale said the water situation worsened after the shutdown. "Water supply was smooth only for about a month after the municipal elections. Areas like Bandavane Nagar and Shanti Nagar are not getting water at all, and tanker supply is also insufficient," she said.
Several other corporators raised similar complaints, pointing to prolonged tanker dependence, low pressure and erratic supply across the city even weeks after the shutdown.
Mayor Aher reiterated that restoring normal water supply was a top priority and warned officials against further delays, directing the department to closely monitor distribution and respond promptly to citizen complaints.
