NASHIK: State tourism minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha said that a theme park and a tourism circuit project dedicated to Hindutva ideologue Vinayak Damodar Savarkar will be developed at a cost of around Rs4 crore.

“The work for the project, to be implemented by the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation, will start by April-end after its blueprint is finalised,” Lodha told TOI.

The tourism department has decided to set up a theme park at Savarkar’s birthplace at Bhagur in rural Nashik, about 20 km from here.

Officials said that under the Savarkar tourism circuit, Abhinav Bharat mandir will be set up in Nashik, a Savarkar chair centre at Pune’s Fergusson College hostel, Babarao Savarkar memorial in Sangli, Patitpavan mandir in Ratnagiri and Savarkar Sadan and a Savarkar memorial in Mumbai.

“The theme park will have a museum showcasing exhibits highlighting Veer Savarkar’s life and his contributions to India’s freedom struggle. The MTDC will similarly develop tourist spots under the Savarkar tourism circuit,” added Lodha.

The MTDC officials said that it has roped in an agency to prepare a blueprint for the project. MTDC officials said that apart from the theme park project, the agency will also renovate the two-storied residence of Savarkar,
