Stock in Nashik dist dams drops to 41%

Nashik: The water levels in all 24 major and medium dams across Nashik district have dropped to 41%.
The ground water levels are also dropping, leading to drying up of water sources in the villages and supply of water from tankers.
The stocks in the dams across the district are at 26,741 million cubic feet (mcft) or 41 percent of the capacity of 65,664 mcft -- almost the same as last year.
The water levels in the three dams that form a part of Gangapur Dam complex providing drinking water to Nashik city are pegged at 44%.
With the ground water levels dropping, the administration has pressed into service more tankers for supplying drinking water.
The number of tankers has gone up from 17 last week to 21. The parched taluka of Yeola is the worst affected so far, with 13 tankers supplying drinking water to 26 villages and hamlets. The population of 24,178 is being provided drinking water through the tankers in the taluka.
There are three tankers each in Malegaon and Chandwad talukas, with four and six villages respectively, depending on the water supply by tankers.
The talukas of Deola and Baglan have one tanker each to provide drinking water to one and two villages, respectively. Around 47,000 people in 39 villages, including 10 hamlets across five talukas of the district, are being provided drinking water through 21 tankers. Six wells in Malegaon and three in Deola have been acquired by the district administration to provide drinking water to the locals by allowing them to draw water or even refill the water tankers.
