Police slap MCOCA on 4 criminals with 17 cases

Nashik: The city police have slapped additional charges under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) on four men booked on the charge of attempt to murder in a case registered in Mhasrul on August 6. The four men had 17 criminal cases registered against them at different police stations and were indulging in serious criminal activities in the Mhasrul, Panchavati, Adgaon and Upnagar areas of the city, the police said.The accused have been identified as Darshan Gorakh Gaikwad, Abhishek Giri, Akash Charoskar and Ganesh Dhatrak, who is the gang leader. The police said, the four men were threatening people by brandishing weapons, beating them, indulging in serious body offences like murder, attempt to murder, causing grievous hurt and rioting. On advice of the commissioner of police Ankush Shinde, additional charges under MCOCA were added to their attempt to murder charge in a case registered at Mhasrul police station. A police official said they were taking strict action against the cri8minals repeatedly indulging in illegal activities. The Ofofficer said a large number of criminals were externed from the city over the past few months to ensure that law and order was maintained.
