Nashik: More than 70,000 devotees visited Trimbakeshwar on the last Shravan Somvar on Monday, said senior police officers of the Trimbakeshwar police station.
While the rush was much less than the third Shravan Somvar, at least 50,000 devotees took a detour around the Brahmagiri mountain from early Monday. Furthermore, there was a continuous rush of devotees who did not circumambulate the Brahmagiri mountain, said PI Mahesh Kulkarni of the Trimbakeshwar police station.
"Since there was a steady rush of devotees from Friday due to the extended weekend, the rush on Monday was relatively less. Nonetheless, rural police deployed 300 policemen and 500 home guards to ensure that there was no untoward incident," Kulkarni said.
In Nashik city, there was a busy rush at all Lord Shiva temples throughout the day. Many devotees distributed prasad at various temples all over the city. The police put strict security arrangements near the Kapaleshwar temple on the river banks, as a large number of devotees visit this temple for darshan. Movement of vehicular traffic on roads leading to Kapaleshwar temple was also banned from early morning.
