Nashik: Valuables and cash worth Rs 3.40 lakh were allegedly stolen from two vehicles from different parts of the city on Friday. This was the third incident in a week when thieves have targeted parked vehicles.

In the first case registered with the Mumbai naka police, Prashant Prakash Nalawade (33) of Geetanjali colony, Indiranagar, lost cash worth Rs 3.20 lakh that was kept in his car. The complainant said the incident took place around 3pm on Tidke colony road when unidentified persons broke the storage space of his bike parked outside his office and stole the cash. Nalawade had withdrawn cash to pay some traders.

In the second case reported with Sarkarwada police, Raju Madan Jha (18) of Satpur-Ambad link road lost cash and four mobile phones worth Rs 13,500. The incident took place on February 24 between 11am and 2pm in front of Dongre Maidan parking lot. Jha and his friends had kept their phones and cash in the bike compartment and gone to appear for exam when the theft took place.

On February 19, Rs 90,000 were allegedly stolen from a car parked outside a hotel in the Mumbai naka area. Rajashree Sunil Patil of Gangapur road said she had parked his car outside the restaurant on February 19 when the incident took place.

Assistant commissioner of police (crime), Sachin Gore said, "Residents should be alert and careful while handling cash and valuables. Crime units are already on alert and are checking for possible CCTV camera footage installed with private establishments."
