Nashik: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has requested chief minister Devendra Fadnavis to sanction a special allocation of Rs500 crore for non-Kumbh civic works.
Civic body's standing committee chairperson Machhindra Sanap recently submitted a letter to the CM in Mumbai, highlighting the urgent need to upgrade colony roads across 31 wards and expand water supply networks in new growth areas.
Sanap said that while Kumbh-related works are progressing, several essential improvements remain unfunded. The proposed allocation aims to strengthen internal road infrastructure, replace aging pipelines and ensure better urban services in rapidly developing zones. The CM is expected to evaluate the proposal with the state's urban development department.
Speaking to the reporters, Sanap said major roads worth Rs1,250 crore are being developed in view of the upcoming Kumbh Mela in Nashik city.
"Apart from the major Kumbh road works, there are many major and internal roads in the city which also need to be developed and strengthened," he said.
"The condition of the internal roads in colonies across Nashik city has deteriorated, and it immediately needs relaying. Apart from Kumbh Mela, these non-Kumbh Mela works also need to be undertaken on war footing to facilitate the city residents at a time when the mega religious conglomerate is being held in the city next year," he added.
Sanap further stated that apart from the colony roads and other major works, there is also a need to undertake water supply-related works in new areas and also improve the existing water supply network which is already old and needs to be replaced with new ones with increased distribution capacity.
