Nine clerks of Sambhajinagar civic body demoted to sweeper, guard, peon posts after failing typing exam
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Nine clerks working with the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation have been demoted to different Class IV posts — such as peon, security guard and sweeper — after they failed to pass the typing exam in four attempts during an eight-month period from April to Novc 2025, the civic authorities said. The employees who faced action had earlier been promoted from their Class IV posts to the Class III posts, and needed to clear the typing exam.
"Overall, in the eight months between April and Nov 2025, despite being given four opportunities, the employees were not able to type in Marathi. This makes it clear that they are not eligible to work in the post of clerk typist," Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar municipal commissioner G Sreekanth said. The civic administration had also issued show-cause notices to the employees in question, seeking an explanation as to why no action should be taken against them. However, the different explanations submitted by the employees were not supportable, and the officials found that there was no improvement in their typing skills despite being given many opportunities. Also, annual increments of another 18 members of clerical staff have been withheld as they too failed the exam on four occasions.. These 18 employees were recruited for clerical posts, but did not have the necessary typing skills.Civic authorities said the action was taken by the municipal commissioner in the light of a govt resolution (GR) by the General Administration Department, dated Sept 12, 2016."The clerical employees, whose annual increments have been withheld, will only get notional increments till they clear the exam. Also, they will not be considered for any promotion till the exam is passed," authorities said.
