Nashik mayor asks PWD to expedite road repair works
Nashik: Mayor Himgauri Aher on Thursday directed officials of the public works department of the Nashik Municipal Corporation to immediately undertake road repair works across the city to minimise inconvenience to residents. The directive was issued during a review meeting held to discuss the deteriorating condition of city roads, particularly in areas affected by large-scale digging for underground works. The mayor noted that extensive excavation for utility projects has left several arterial and internal roads in poor condition, resulting in potholes and uneven surfaces that cause hardship to motorists and pedestrians. The PWD officials said that plans had earlier been finalised to fill potholes and carry out road repairs at multiple locations. However, the execution of these works was delayed as Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) had sought an extension to complete underground cabling works. The mayor then instructed officials to ensure that all related underground works are completed within the extended timeline and that road restoration and repair works are taken up immediately thereafter.
The mayor said no further delay would be tolerated and asked the PWD to closely monitor works to ensure quality and timely completion. Officials were also told to coordinate with utility agencies to avoid repeated digging and ensure proper reinstatement of roads once cabling works are completed.Civic officials said the repairs are expected to significantly improve road conditions and provide relief to citizens who have faced problems for several weeks. The mayor said the issue would be reviewed again at the end of the month to assess progress and ensure that residents are not inconvenienced further due to delayed infrastructure works.
