Malegaon cops seize gutka worth `1.7 lakh

Nashik: The Malegaon police on Thursday conducted 11 raids on pan and grocery shops, and seized gutka worth Rs 1.7 lakh.The raids were conducted in places falling under the limits of Pawarwadi, Killa, Ramzanpura, Azadnagar and Chhavani police stations. According to the police, despite conducting raids at regular intervals, a large number of people smuggle gutka from neighbouring states and sell it discreetly.FIRs have been registered against the suspects for offences punishable under sections328 (causing hurt by means of poison, etc., with intent to commit an offence), 272 (adulteration of food or drink intended for sale), 273 (sale of noxious food or drink) and 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of Indian Penal Code. The raids were conducted after superintendent of police (Nashik Rural), Shahaji Umap instructed the incharges of all police stations to ensure that the ban on gutka and other narcotics is strictly enforced. The police have also set up special squads to trace sale of products across the district.

Police bust gutka unit operating from poultry farm

Police in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Osmanabad district, raided a gutka manufacturing unit operating from a poultry farm. Five people were arrested, including the owners of the unit, and articles worth Rs 50 lakh were seized. The accused were found to be manufacturing and supplying the banned substance to neighbouring states. This is the first large-scale gutka manufacturing unit of its kind that the police have come across. The accused stated that they started the operation before the pandemic and recently restarted it.

Nashik police to ensure peace & calm

Over 2,500 personnel will be deployed by the Nashik city and rural police to ensure a peaceful Ganpati festival. The city police will have four deputy commissioners, seven assistant commissioners, and various other ranks patrolling the city, while the rural areas will have additional police superintendents and other officers. QR codes will also be used at all Ganesh mandals for safety purposes. In other news, two women IPS officers from the Delhi Police have been attached to the CBI for their investigation in Manipur, and the STF has obtained a production warrant for a dismissed inspector in a drugs case.

Jalna police raid 1 acre mature marijuana farm

Police in Jalna district raided a farm and seized over 500 fully grown marijuana plants. The suspect, a farmer from Kathora Bazar village, is believed to be involved in a larger marijuana processing and supply racket. The police are in the process of registering a case under the NDPS Act. Investigation into the case is ongoing.
