Average wholesale price of onions up 20% in APMCs across Nashik
Nashik: The average wholesale price of onions at Agricultural Produce Market Committees (APMCs) across Nashik district increased by around 20% during the last one week owing to rise in demand as compared to supply.
On Wednesday, the average wholesale price at Lasalgaon APMC touched Rs1,400 per quintal, but on Thursday it declined marginally to Rs1,350 per quintal. Last week, the average wholesale price was recorded at around Rs1,150 per quintal.
At Pimpalgaon APMC, the average wholesale price was recorded at Rs1,450 per quintal on Thursday, against Rs1,250 per quintal last week. On Wednesday, the average price at Pimpalgaon was recorded at Rs1,550 per quintal.
The good quality export onions are being sold in the price range of Rs1,200 to Rs1,800 per quintal. But medium quality onions are being sold in the price range between Rs700 and Rs1,100 per quintal. These are sold or consumed in the domestic markets.
According to Manoj Jain, an onion trader, there has been a rise in demand for onions in the international markets for the past few days. “This is the reason the average wholesale price has increased at the APMCs,” said Jain.
Meanwhile, at Lasalgaon APMC, the minimum and maximum wholesale prices were recorded at Rs700 and Rs 1,751 per quintal, respectively. Around 12,000 quintal of onions were auctioned at Lasalgaon on Thursday.
