Ankur film fest receives over 500 entries

NASHIK

: Over 60 films of various genres would be on display in the 8th edition of

Ankur Film Festival

2019 that started on Friday evening.

The three-day festival conducted by Abhivyakti, a media development organisation, saw entries coming in short films, documentaries, animation, and experimental movies section. The organisers chose 75 films in different formats out of which 48 were Indian and the rest were from various other countries. They were made in different languages which people could watch with the help of subtitles.

The event was inaugurated by director Svati Chakravarty Bhatkal, who showed her film Rubaru Roshani, which was an Amir Khan Productions film. It was followed by a discussion with Bhatkal.

Ranjeet Gadgil, a member of Abhivyakti, told TOI, “We are very happy with the

response

of the people this year. Over 500 filmmakers had sent their applications. We selected 75 out of them from all regions and genres. Though we could not play all of them but have covered most of the entries.”

The film festival took place at

Kusumagraj

Smarak at Gangapur Road which received over 1000 people to watch the films. “We want to encourage grass root filmmakers and give a platform to them so that they can keep making good films,” Gadgil added.

The festival kept two workshops for the budding filmmakers. On Saturday, Savin Tuscano, a director and ad-film maker from Mumbai imparted his knowledge with the audience. He explained the procedure that is required to make good television commercials.

The second workshop on Sunday was with Prashant Naik, an award-winning film editor, about film editing. He explained the nitty-gritty of editing a film and that how editing makes a lot of difference.

The event ended with Coral Woman, a 52 minutes documentary by Priya Thuvassery, who explained her idea of meeting with Kerala women and expressing their good and bad times.
