42-year-old Bangladeshi woman arrested in Jalgaon
Nashik: The Jalgaon police arrested a 42-year-old woman, a Bangladesh national, for allegedly residing illegally in India. On Wednesday, she was produced before a court in Bhusawal, which remanded her in two-day police custody.
The Bhusawal Bazaarpeth police registered a case against her under relevant sections of the Passports Act and the Foreigners Act, and are investigating whether she was associated with other people from Bangladesh staying illegally in India.
The woman has been identified as Farida Begam Mohammad Khan.
The police said the accused woman had no documents to show that she had legally come into India. During questioning, the woman said her sister had been residing in Bhusawal since 2007. When her sister returned to Bangladesh in 2009, she told her to come to India for work.
Subsequently, with the help of an agent who took Rs 5,000 from them, they crossed into India by a river route, after which she and her sister came to Bhusawal by train from Howrah. Her sister helped her get Aadhaar card, Voter ID card, PAN, bank passbook, etc.
When asked about her sister, the accused woman said that her sister had married a man from Bhusawal. However, eight months back, her sister and her husband died in a road accident at Malkapur in Buldhana.
The police said that on checking her cellphone, they found a certain mobile application used by Bangladesh nationals for chatting. The Bhusawal Bazaarpeth police are investigating the case further, said deputy SP (Bhusawal) Kedar Barbole.
