NAGPUR: Zonal Transplant Co-ordination Committee (ZTCC), Nagpur, elected their new office bearers in the annual general meeting held earlier this week.
Well-known transplant surgeon from Nagpur, Dr Sanjay Kolte, has been elected as secretary of ZTCC for the next three years. He replaced Dr Ravi Wankhede, a stalwart who developed the organ transplant movement in Nagpur.
ZTCC president, Dr Vibhawari Dani and most of the executive members from the present team have got an extension.
“I have been working very closely in the field of cadaver transplant since many years. I consider this new responsibility as an opportunity for me to work for this noble cause,” said Dr Kolte.
“The new team aims at conducting workshops for doctors, surgeons, social workers and also creating public awareness about deceased organ donation,” he added.
The new team of ZTCC Nagpur includes former GMCH dean, Dr Vibhawari Dani, as president, Dr Sanjay Kolte as secretary, nephrologist Dr V L Gupta and HoD of anaesthesia department of GMCH, Dr Naresh Tirpude, as vice presidents, liver transplant and hepatobiliary surgeon, Dr Rahul Sexena, as joint secretary, Vijay Kadwe as treasurer, Dr S J Acharya and Dr Ashwinikumar Khandekar as members.
ZTCC works to promote deceased organ donation and transplant, to ensure optimal use of all deceased available organs and to reach out to every needy recipient with fair distribution of organs as per the government guidelines. For this, ZTCC maintains the computerized waiting list blood group wise for every organ like kidney, liver, heart and lung as per the priority criteria given in the
Maharashtra state guidelines.
According to the rules of the charity commissioner, the election process was conducted under the guidance of senior advocate Rajeev Deo. Senior cardiothoracic surgeon, Dr P K Deshpande, supervised the process of elections.
