YAVATMAL: Sunita Shelke, a resident of

Parsoda village

in Arni tehsil of Yavatmal district, has become the first ever beneficiary of the recently introduced under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana from Maharashtra.

Sunita’s husband died of a chronic disease two years ago and she struggles to feed her little children.

Situated five kms from Arni town, the population of Parsoda village is 1,450. Sunita posted her details online on December 1 and got herself registered for gouse under the scheme.

As soon as the news of Sunita getting house under the scheme spread in the area, the villagers started thronging her hut and expressed their happiness publicly. Among the visitors were Zilla Parishad chief executive officer Deepak Singla, project director Vinay Thamke, block development officer of Arni Panchayat Samiti C G Chavan and sectional engineer Mahesh Kanchalwar.

They not only congratulated Sunita but also promised to get her new house completed within the fixed time frame.

Talking to media persons on Monday, Singla said, “There are 77 gram panchayats in Arni tehsil. Altogether 465 aspirants are set to get benefits of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. All of them will be given houses in the near future.”

Sarpanch of Parsoda Gram Panchayat Atul Deshmukh also expressed happiness over the Sunita getting the house.
