VNIT to hold DASA admissions this year
Nagpur: The Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) has been entrusted with the responsibility of conducting the Direct Admissions of Students Abroad (
The VNIT director, who is the chairman of the DASA committee, told reporters here on Friday that VNIT would be conducting online admissions for more than 46 institutions for 2,300 UG and 968 PG seats. These institutes include the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIITs) and Schools of Planning and Architecture (SPAs) and other premier technical institutions of India. This scheme is going on in the country since 2001-02.
As many as 26 countries will be participating in the admission process this year. Applicants from the SAARC countries, Middle East countries, European countries, United States of America have registered with DASA. These students however need to have undergone the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT-2) exam conducted by the college board of USA and the criteria for admissions to PG programmes are GRE and GMAT. 15% of the supernumerary seat quota has been allotted for DASA candidates in every participating institute.
The fees for the course is US$8,000 per annum per candidate. Foreign national from SAARC countries however have a 50% concession on tuition fees provided they have passed the qualifying examination from one of the SAARC countries. 5% supernumerary seats (within the 15% of DASA supernumerary quota) are reserved for the children of Indian Workers in Gulf Countries (CIWG). They have to pay the same fees as the resident candidates — Rs1.25 lakh.
Yogesh Deshpande, the DASA coordinator also spoke on the occasion. Prof Vilas Deshpande, dean academics, Prof P M Padole, dean faculty welfare, and Prof Rajendra Yerpude, dean planning and development were also present on the occasion. Senior MHRD officials, directors from two NITs and faculty members from NIT Srinagar and NIT Jaipur are the members of the core DASA committee. Pramod Chakravorty and Ashish Tiwari are the conveners of DASA.
