Chandrapur: A villager was killed in a tiger attack in Mamala beat of Chandrapur (buffer) forest range of Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve on Tuesday evening, triggering concern in the area.
The deceased has been identified as Jagan Durve (47), a resident of Mamala village. According to sources, Durve had gone to a nearby forest to collect firewood when a tiger suddenly attacked him. The incident occurred in compartment No. 384 of Mamala beat, where the tiger fatally mauled him by grabbing his throat.
After learning about the incident, villagers immediately alerted the forest department. Officials and staff from the department rushed to the spot to assess the situation.
Following the attack, forest authorities have intensified patrolling in the surrounding area and issued an alert, urging residents to be cautious while venturing into forested zones.
Sources in the forest department said the victim's family has been provided a relief assistance of ₹1 lakh.
So far this year, seven people have lost their lives in wildlife-related attacks in Chandrapur district. Of these, six deaths were caused by tiger attacks, while one person was killed by a leopard.
According to the records, in 2025, 47 deaths were recorded in wildlife attack incidents across the district. Among them, 42 people were killed by tigers, three by leopards, while two persons died in attacks by a bear and an elephant respectively.
