Tagore, Nazrul Islam’s literary works mesmerize audience
NAGPUR: To commemorate the birth anniversaries of Gurudev Rabindranath
The programme, which was also the part of Roop Rang’s golden jubilee year celebration, began with pleasing presentation of songs ‘Shanti Jai ho Satya Jai ho’ and ‘Oyi maha manav’ composed by Islam and Tagore respectively. They were performed by a chorus that included Bijita Bandopadhyay, Sharvari Roy, Bobita Dutto, Shubroja Kirtoniya, RN Roy and Tapos Dutto.
RNS Muzumdar followed the song with brief information about the poets wherein he spoke not only about the versatility of their art but also their dedication towards it and how they strived to spread positive emotions through it.
Various other song compositions were also performed by singers — Shimontika Luha, Mitali Dutto, Paromita Roy, Rutjo Narayan Roy and Kirtoniya — which were highly applauded and enjoyed by the attendees. Tagore’s noted poem ‘Africa’ was recited by Shriram Bandopadhyay, secretary of RR, which took the listeners to a trance who were seen reminiscing about the poet.
The highlight of the programme was the non-Bengali girls, Yashashi Pal and Aishwarya Pravin adapting the Bengali culture really well and stupendously performing the Rabindro Nrityo and Nazrul Nrityo respectively. Another energetic dance on one of Nazrul’s compositions was presented by Mritika Kirtoniyo.
The concluding session of the event witnessed a highly expressive and impressive presentation of the audio play on Tagore’s book ‘Dan Protidan’ which was directed by Shriram Bandopadhyay. The story revolved around two brother-like boys who feel extreme care for each other. They are having good cordial times when the story takes a turn and one of the brothers lies to the other. The roller-coaster tale swirls with a lot of drama when in the end there is confession and forgiveness.
“The story was chosen to spread the message of forgiveness, love and humanity,” Bijita Bandopadhyay told TOI. The play was staged by Roop Rang members Shriram, Bijita, Ashok Ray, Indrayni Ray, Tapos, Tomal Maity, Arun Mukherjee, SN Thakur and Anuroop Sarkar.
Mrinal Kanti Ray, treasurer of RR, ws also present on the occasion.
