Nagpur: Zonal DCP Neelotpal’s special squad has arrested 87 persons in 38 days till September end this year. The squad has also seized material worth more than Rs1.49 crores in different actions which includes rescue of two women from flesh trade.
On Monday night, the squad raided the house of Sandeep Nade at Rahate Nagar Toli Road and arrested 27 gamblers, including Nade, and also seized materials worth Rs2.94 lakhs.
Neelotpal said the squad was formed in the wake of the state assembly election this year so as to ensure that there was no illegal activities in the northern part of the city. “Subsequently, we decided to decided to arrest absconders in undetected cases,” he said.
Neelotpal said the squad had also busted several rackets involved in trafficking cows for illegal slaughtering rescuing the animals and seizing vehicles.
The squad had registered six cases of illegal trafficking of cows while arresting eight persons and seizing materials worth more than Rs1.34 crores. The special team, under API Prashant Annachhatre, has so far registered 18 cases for transportation of illegal liquor, arrested 19 persons and seized materials worth Rs2.75 lakhs.
Around nine cases of gambling have also been registered against 51 people and materials worth more than Rs11.58 lakhs seized.
Apart from API Annachatre, the squad also comprises naik constable Suraj Bharti, constables Vinod Sontakke, Chetan Jadhav, Prabhakar Mankar, Ravindra Raut and Mrudul Nagre.
