Six city riders join ‘all-women’ bike expedition ‘Queens on the Wheel’ in MP

Nagpur: Six women riders from Nagpur are revving across Central India as part of a 25-member all-women motorcycle expedition, ‘Queens on the Wheel', launched in Bhopal on International Women's Day. The third edition of the ride has been jointly organised by Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation and CAC–All-rounder Adventures to promote women empowerment and adventure tourism. The expedition was flagged off by Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav at his residence in Bhopal on Saturday. The flag-off ceremony was also attended by higher education minister Inder Singh Parmar along with senior tourism officials.
Representing Nagpur in the expedition are Dr Priyanka Shrivas, Rukmini Punwatkar, Pallavi Deshmukh, Ruchika Meghe, Maithili Singh and Ekta Khante. The six riders are part of a diverse group of women bikers from across the country who have come together to explore the cultural and historical landscape of Central India while promoting confidence and independence among women riders. Following the launch ceremony, the riders travelled to the historic Sanchi Stupa near Sanchi, one of the most significant Buddhist heritage sites in India and a UNESCO world heritage site. The participants visited the monument and experienced the rich history and architecture associated with the ancient Buddhist site. The group then rode through scenic routes in Madhya Pradesh and halted overnight at the historic Udayagiri Caves, known for their ancient rock-cut temples and archaeological importance. Speaking about the experience to TOI while zipping through the highway, Nagpur rider Maithili Singh said she has been riding motorcycles for the past three years and was selected for the expedition by the organisers. "The ride will cover several historic and wildlife destinations including Chanderi, Shivpuri, Kuno National Park and Khajuraho before concluding in Bhopal. The total distance of the expedition will exceed 1,400 km, with the final leg covering more than 300km," said. From Udayagiri, the riders travelled to Chanderi, where they stayed at the Chanderi Tent City and explored the town's rich heritage, including historic forts, temples and the world-famous Chanderi saree weaving tradition. The expedition aims to celebrate adventure, resilience and women empowerment while showcasing the cultural richness and tourism potential of Madhya Pradesh, with Nagpur riders playing a prominent role in the journey.
