Science remains the top choice

NAGPUR: Even though there may be an overall drop in SSC pass percentage, the number of those scoring distinction has swelled. In the district, a total of 9,823 candidates out of over 50,000 candidates who cleared the exam have secured 75% or more marks. This means Standard XI seats in top colleges like Shivaji Science and Ambedkar remain at a premium.Most students are of the view that getting science stream in Std XI and XII is an uphill task. But science remains in demand because of the perceived avenues it opens up later on. Along with regular subjects like physics, chemistry, and biology, there are others subjects like Information Technology (IT), electronics, fisheries, computer science or engineering drawing are also offered but these differ in every institute.Science hasscoring subjects but also requires a scientific bent of mind. Mathematics mayprove to be a killer subject if the student does not have a good grip over it.On the whole, science is a traditional option and a majority of students stillopt for it.
