Nagpur: President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday addressed the valedictory ceremony of the 78th batch of Indian Revenue Service (Income Tax) at National Academy of Direct Taxes (NADT) in the city, urging young officers to uphold fairness, transparency and public trust in tax administration.
Congratulating trainee officers — including two from Royal Bhutan Service of the neighbouring Himalayan country — on completing their induction training, the President described NADT as a premier institution that has played vital role in strengthening India's direct tax system over the decades.
She expressed confidence that the officers have imbibed not only technical knowledge but also values and responsibilities of public service.
The President noted that India's economic journey in recent years has been dynamic, with rising direct tax collections, improved compliance and expansion of the tax base reflecting growing trust between citizens and the administration. She termed the Income Tax Act, 2025 — which has come into effect from April 1, 2026 — as a landmark reform aimed at creating a modern, simple and transparent tax regime, placing responsibility on the new officers for its effective implementation.
