A speeding car hit a scooter causing death of pillion rider, Manjeet Singh Kalsi, a resident of Balabhaupeth, near rural RTO office, Lal Godown on Tuesday evening. Kalsi’s friend Devendra Kawade was riding the scooter. The duo was going from Gaddigodam to Kamptee Road. Kalsi was rushed to Mayo Hospital where he was declared brought dead while Kawade, who has sustained injuries, is undergoing treatment.
Jaripatka police have registered a case against the car driver who had fled the spot after the accident.
Cash, valuables worth 70,000 stolen
Thieves decamped with cash, gold valuables worth 70,000 from Shashi Mishra’s residence at Prakash Nagar, Murlidhar Cooperative Housing Society, on Tuesday afternoon. Mishra told police that she had gone to office when the burglary took place. Gittikhadan police have registered a case.

10-year-old boy falls in well, dies
Aakash Biren, 10, died after falling in a well while playing near his residence at Shrikrishna Dham, Koradi Road, on Tuesday afternoon. Koradi police have registered accidental death.
Two ST buses damaged during agitation
Two ST buses were damaged in heavy stone-pelting on Patur-Balapur road in Akola district during an agitation against derogatory remarks about Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar on Facebook, said police. Three persons, including a ST bus driver, were injured in the incident. Police rushed to the spot on getting information and arrested two persons on the basis of complaint filed by one Swapnil Survade.
Two drown while swimming in lake
Two boys drowned in Deo Talao, 80km from Washim, recently. The deceased have been identified as Sayyad Azhar, 19, a resident of Malegaon, Washim district and Shoaib Shaikh, 12, a resident of Washim. Azhar had come to Washim for attending an engagement ceremony. Both Azhar and Shaikh had gone to the lake for swimming. One bicycle and chappals were found on the bank of the lake.
26-year-old woman gang-raped
Two persons allegedly raped a 26-year-old woman at Telhara tehsil town in Akola district recently, informed police. The woman is a resident of village Kurha Kakod in Muktai Nagar taluka of Jalgaon Khandesh district. She had come to Telhara for some work. She had got in touch with the accused a few days ago. One of the accused, Ashok Piwal (45), a bank employee at Telhara, has been arrested and remanded to police custody for four days. Further investigation is on.
