Vidarbha

Gaurav Pratishthan, to mark the birth centenary of Phadke, fondly called ‘babuji’.

MLC Anil Sole and chief engineer of Mahagenco Koradi Abhay Harne were the guests.

It was a sight to behold as music lovers were treated to quality singing that drew repeated applause and calls for an encore from a packed house. The response demonstrated that Phadke’s songs and music are as popular today as they were during his lifetime.

Phadke’s touch and his emphasis on clarity of pronunciation of words was in evidence as the singers were bang on and maintained the simplicity and emotions of which he was the king. Phadke never compromised on perfection while singing or composing music. The melody in his voice was backed by quest for perfection.

Songs like ‘Kush Luv Ramayan gaati’, ‘Kuthe shodhisi Rameshwar’, ‘Toch chandrama nabhat’, ‘Samadhi sadhan sanjeevan naam’, ‘Swar aale duruni’, ‘Chandra aahe sakshila’, ‘Jyoti kalash chhalke’, ‘Ashi pakhare yeti’, ‘Sakhi maand jhalya taraka’, ‘Tuze geet ganya sathi’, ‘Dehachi tijori’, ‘Aaj rani purvichi ti preet’, ‘Dhundi kalyanna’, ‘Mala he dattaguru disale’, ‘Navin aaj chandrama’, ‘Kanada raja pandharicha’, ‘Santh wahte krushnamai’, ‘Lo shraddhanjali rashtra purush’ and ‘Priya aaj mazi nase saath dyaya’ were presented with aplomb.

The songs were sung by Shyam Deshpande, Vijay Deshpande, Anil Khobragade, Chhaya Wankhede Gajbhiye, Ashwini Lule, Padmaja Sinha, Amol Kulkarni and P Nisargraj. The accompanying artistes were Shridhar Korde (tabla), Mahendra Watulkar (octopad) and Parimal Joshi (synthesizer).

Sudhir Phadke had scored music for over 100 films of which 21 are Hindi. He worked with famous singers like Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle, besides others.

At the outset, Sole said, “Vijay Deshpande came to me with an idea of holding such an event to mark the birth centenary of Phadke. In order to remember iconic singers, music directors and composers, such events will be organized throughout the year.”
