NU zoology dept develops quick breath testing kit for diabetes
Nagpur: Researchers from Post Graduate Department of Zoology at Nagpur University developed a device that can detect diabetes through breath, eliminating the need for needle-based blood tests. The research team has been awarded a UK Design Registration Certificate for their "Non-Invasive Diabetes Monitoring Device".The device works by detecting acetone levels in breath, known to rise with increasing blood glucose levels. Using correlation and regression analysis, researchers established a predictive relationship between breath acetone and blood glucose. The device then converts acetone readings into estimated glucose levels.Contributors include Dr Varsha Dhurve (HoD), Harsh Tiwari and Sabrin Bano Mohd Javed Mansuri. The research also saw collaboration from institutions including Govt JSTPG College, Balaghat, Shivaji Science Colleges in Nagpur and Amravati, Kamla Nehru Mahila College, Balaghat and Trinity College, Dublin.
