NU exams shouldn’t clash with entrance tests: Senate member

Nagpur: Concerns over a possible overlap between university examinations and major competitive tests have been raised, with a representation submitted to the Nagpur University vice-chancellor Manali Kshirsagar seeking urgent intervention.In a letter dated April 22, Senate member Manmohan Bajpayee said examination timetables must be planned carefully to avoid clashes with key entrance and recruitment tests such as UPSC, MPSC and IIT-JEE, warning that overlaps could severely impact students' prospects. The full fledged summer exams are set to start from May 6 for major courses.He said delays in winter exam results and the non-commencement of summer exams have already disrupted the 2025-26 academic calendar. While several results have been declared, he said many remain pending and some are not fully error-free, continuing to cause uncertainty among students.Bajpayee said final-year students are particularly vulnerable, as timely results are crucial for higher education admissions and competitive exam opportunities. He urged the university to adopt a ‘war footing' approach by forming a team of experienced principals, professors, senior clerks and Senate members to ensure timely, error-free results and smooth conduct of exams.He also proposed that students facing unavoidable clashes be allowed re-examinations upon submitting valid proof, and said he would extend full support to the administration in safeguarding students' academic future.He said that while fifth semester results for many courses are pending, the timetable for sixth semester has been released. "This leaves students in a tough position. The students must be given some time to prepare and take a call on their previous results in case of backlog or poor marks. At least 15 days must be given," he said.
