Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) plans to develop a Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj-themed garden near Model Mill Square at an estimated cost of ₹1 crore, aiming to combine heritage with urban recreation.
According to the design blueprint, the garden will feature a central mural of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, set within a landscaped layout. The entrance will have fort-style, stone-clad walls and ornamental gates inspired by Maratha architecture, while a dedicated mural wall will depict key moments from the ruler's life.
A major attraction will be a ‘Deep Stambh' (traditional lamp tower), envisioned as a multi-tiered vertical structure reflecting classical temple design.
Planned as a multifunctional space, the garden will include lawns, jogging tracks, plantation zones, a sand play area for children, yoga spaces, and seating pergolas. Spread over about 2,000 sq m, the garden will have clearly defined sections for greenery, paved pathways, and activity areas.
The project also incorporates essential infrastructure such as internal pathways, boundary plantations, and landscaped buffers. Civic officials said the initiative seeks to create a cultural landmark that honours the Maratha ruler while serving as a modern recreational space for residents.
