NMC confirms failure of 24x7 water scheme, rejects OCW claims

Nagpur: It’s now official. Water operator Orange City Water Private Limited (OCW) is supplying drinking water on alternate days to some areas, and some localities in the city get less than two hours water a day. This is despite works worth around ₹1,000 crore being sanctioned, and the entire city supposed to have been converted into 24x7 water supply by 2017.
TOI had reported on July 2 that NMC’s special purpose vehicle — Nagpur Environmental Services Limited (NESL) — slapped termination notice on OCW and slashed payment by ₹67 crore per year citing poor service and breach of agreement.
OCW submitted its reply on August 17, and asked the civic body not to invoke termination clause. The operator said the contract should not be abandoned such that the provision of essential water supply services was jeopardized.
