NAGPUR: The Navratnas of the city were felicitated for their contribution to the society on Sunday by NGO Sunrise Peace Mission. The NGO declared the 13th Sunrise Peace Awards 2013. Four awards each in the categories of Satkar murti and Balratna were also given away.
The winners were selected from among more than 120 nominations by an 11 member team.

Chief advisor of Datta Meghe institute of Medical Studies Dr Ved Prakash Mishra was the chief guest and social worker Girish Gandhi presided over the function. Businessman Gopal Agrawal and nominated member of Nobel Peace committee from the city Dr Balkrishna Kurve were the guest of honours.
"Our team had visited Europe in 1994. We realized then that it was sad how few Nobel Prize recipients were from India. Therefore, we decided to install these awards on the advice of Dr Kurve," said founder and national president of the NGO Dr Hargovind Murarka.
The Naratnas this year were: Dr Sadhna Nafde (nrityakala ratna), Prabodh Wekhande (jyotish ratna), Vinod Asudani (shiksha ratna), Dr ML Naidu (vaikalpik chikitsa ratna), Deepak Suchak (samaj sewa ratna), Surbhi Dhomne (gaayan ratna), Dr Sanjay Deshpande (vaidyakiya sewa ratna), Dr Vallabh Panpaliya (rugna sewa ratna) and Bhawan Patel (shaurya ratna).
Noted businessman Basantlal Shaw, expert in disaster management Shamim Ahmed, leading authority on complementary medicine Thornton Streeter from England and social worker Atul Kotecha were felicitated in the Satkar Murti category. Balratna awards were given to child artistes Sugandha Date (Indian Idol fame), Chinmay Deshkar (participant of many reality shows), Vaishnavi Mujumdar (dancer) and Khushi Jayaswal (sportsperson).
