Nagpur NGO demands collector to stop commercial use of Kasturchand Park
NAGPUR: Kasturchand Park, or KP Ground as it is commonly known, is the biggest ground located in the heart of city and is a place of pride as a landmark for Nagpurians. It is the only non-privately owned play ground available in Central Nagpur and the residents from nearby areas like Mohan Nagar, Sadar, Gaddigodam, Kamptee Road, Bajeria, Mominpura, Central Avenue, Sitabuldi etc are fully dependent on this ground for their sport
The ground, which once produced many a sportsperson from the city and was a pleasant sight to behold while watching youngsters honing their sporting skills every evening and during holidays, has become sort of a garbage producing and dumping yard and is now in a very pathetic condition.

Its present condition is mostly due to over commercialization by the greed of district administration and zero maintenance by the Public Works Department and NMC.
A delegation comprising of members of 'Parivartan Citizen Forum', under the leadership of MLA of the region Sudhakar Deshmukh, met district collector Saurabh Rao on Friday and appraised him about the condition of the ground. The collector's approach towards the issue was positive and after a lengthy discussion it was decided that a visit will be made to the ground in coming days along with the NMC Commissioner and the officers from PWD for better understanding of the situation and to take further action. The members of Parivartan will also be called during the visit said the Collector.
The collector also assured that the ground will be given on priority for any sports activity and the district administration will not charge the commercial charges for the same which they were doing since last few years. That was the reason for the death of sporting activities on this famous ground.
