Murderers still elusive, cops look for motive in Monica case
NAGPUR: Was it love, hate or anger, or something else, that led to the murder of Monica Kirnapure? The cops are now desperately trying to find the motive in the murder case, even as a week has gone by since the murder of the third-year engineering student at Shree Nagar in Nandanvan. Unfortunately, the cops are no closer to solving the case than they were on the first day.The city police has been under tremendouspressure to crack the case. Apart from public anger, pressure has been mountingfrom various sections of the society including youth wings of political outfits. The matter was also raised on the assembly floor, with the opposition expressingtheir concern.Maharashtra assembly speaker Dilip Walse-Patil directed the state government to take serious note of the Monica murder case and the fact that the killers are absconding even now. MLAs Devendra Fadnavis, Ashish Jaiswal and others raised the issue in assembly and strongly condemned the police and government for their failure to solve the case. They also expressed serious apprehensions regarding law and order situation in Nagpur.City police chief Ankush Dhanvijay said more than 50personnel, including women officers and a team of lady cops, have been put onthe job. The crime branch too has been called into action, with last year's mostsuccessful officer senior inspector Madhao Giri and promising sub-inspectorSameer Gaikwad of cyber cell leading the probe along with AnilRajankar.
"The cops are chasing each and every clue coming their way.Every team has been put under an officer of sub-inspector rank. The silence ofonlookers and people who could have helped is posing a major hurdle," said CPDhanvijay. The probe has been left with three basic theoriesinvolving Monica's personal life. The cops feel that either Monica was thevictim of a love affair gone wrong, a love triangle or an unknown lover whocould not win her.A section of the cops feel that the brutality ofthe murder leads them to think that the action was out of wrath generated fromfrustration or fear. "Involvement of a senior person also cannot be ruled out.Maybe Monica's presence had become threatening for someone's social existenceand dignity. Eliminating the girl was the only hope for him to survive withdignity in society," said a senior cop.Few cops also believe thatMonica could have become the victim of an over-possessive man, whose jealouslyabout Monica socialising with others, particularly members from the oppositegender, could have led to the murder.Call details and records oftext messages from Monica's mobile are the only clues before the cops atpresent. The cops are reaching out to different people by referring to Monica'scall details.
