Nagpur: A man was sentenced to eight years of rigorous imprisonment by the district and sessions court for attempting to murder his former girlfriend by shooting the victim in broad daylight.
Sijochandran alias Prince Roshalchandran (31), a resident of Deoli Khanpur in New Delhi, was found guilty under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC and other charges. The court also imposed a fine of Rs10,000 on him, with three months' additional simple imprisonment in default of payment.
According to the prosecution, on August 1, 2012, the accused followed a company bus in which his ex-girlfriend was travelling with colleagues. Enraged over a police complaint the woman filed against him, Prince stopped the bus near Dhamna on Amravati Road, boarded it and fired two shots. He then forced the woman to get down and shot her in the left thigh.
A case was registered at Hingna Police Station under Sections 307, 341, 506 IPC along with provisions of Arms Act and Mumbai Police Act. Then PI GR Kankale investigated the case. Govt prosecutor Kalpana Pandey conducted the prosecution.
The district and additional session judge SH Gwalani pronounced the judgment, convicting the accused on all counts. Additional sentences included one-month rigorous imprisonment under Section 341, seven days under Section 506, three years under Arms Act, and fines totalling Rs15,500.
