Lata’s evergreen 90 years marked with her hit songs

NAGPUR: Legend Lata Mangeshkar’s 90th birthday was celebrated in advance with a musical — ‘Lata’s Golden 90’— organized by Antara Musical Academy and Kalavishwakar at Scientific Society Hall, on Wednesday.
Nearly 31 hits of the ‘Voice Of India’ were brought alive by various singers to celebrate her big day which is on September 28. The programme commenced with the song ‘Aye maalik tere bande hum’ sung by Sushma Damodare after which Narendra Giridhar, the anchor for the evening, said, “We could not have thought of a better song than this one to start the programme.”

Carrying on with her melodious voice, Sushma sang the song, ‘Aayega aane wala’ from the movie Mahal.

The anchor did not let the environment remain limited to songs only. He had the audience in splits with anecdotes about Lata’s movies as well as her personal and professional life.
Singers Priti Kelkar, Nilesh Kelkar, Sudheer Madlekar and Manjusha Vachalwaar took Lata fans down memory lane with duets. The other singers like Mrunal Kate, Avinash Kaushik and Anushree Kelkar added value to the event.
Songs like ‘Ajeeb
daastaan hai yeh’, ‘Chaai barkha bahar’ and ‘Baahon mei chale aao’ made the audience hum along. Duets like ‘Yaad kiya dil ne’, ‘Chupaale yun dil mei’, ‘Awaz de ke’ and ‘Salaame ishq’ evoked a foot-tapping response.
The concluding song, ‘Humko tumse ho gaya hai’ from the movie Amar Akbar Anthony was sung by Sushma, Avinash, Nilesh and Sanjay Kate. It received a thunderous applause.
Sanjay Kate conceptualized the event and performed as well. The music was directed by Sachin Dhomne.
