Kokandakar’s book on Gandhiji’s life released
Nagpur: To mark 150th year of Mahatma Gandhi’s death anniversary, Maharashtra Gandhi Smarak Nidhi Granthalaya had organized a book release function of JR Kokandakar’s books titled ‘Understanding of Mahatma’ and ‘Knowing Mahatma Gandhi through Question & Answer’, at Shri Gurudev Sevashram, Ganeshpeth, on Sunday.
The books were released at the hands of Salem Nanjundaiah Subba Rao, director of Rashtriya Yuva Yojana, New Delhi and Shripad Joshi, former president of Akhil Bhartiya Marathi Sahitya Mahamandal.
Anwar Rajan, secretary of Maharashtra Gandhi Smarak Nidhi was invited as the special guest. Advocate Gadkari, former president of Sevagram Ashram, Wardha; Subhash Rathod, library director at Granthalaya Sanchalanalaya, Mumbai; Gajanan Kotewar, chief caretaker of Maharashtra Rajya Granthalaya Sangha, Mumbai; Digambar Sable, president of Nagpur Vibhag Granthalaya Sangha; Haridas Tembhurne, Working President of Nagpur Vibhag Granthalaya Sangha and Meenakshi Kamble, Assistant Library Director were invited as the chief guests.
Addressing the gathering, Subba Rao said, “We should follow the principles like non-violence and selflessness given by Mahatma Gandhi and should also educate children about them. Gandhian values have the power to create a selfless personality which is needed in upcoming generations.” He rendered the song ‘Jai Jagat’ and enthralled the audience.
Tushar Gandhi, the great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi and Justice Late Chandrashekhar Dharmadhikari have given a preface to Kokandakar’s books. Till now, Kokandakar has written 27 books in all the Hindi, Marathi and English languages.
Rao, Kokandakar and Gurudas Borkar were felicitated on the occasion. Pournima Gaidhane proposed a vote of thanks.
