Nagpur:Santosh Ambekar, who has been booked three times under the stringent Maharashtra control of organized crime Act (MCOCA), was on Friday evening accused by the Lakadganj police of wrongful restraint and disobeying instruction in what seems a mere eyewash action against him. Ambekar was allowed by cops to go ahead with the Ganpati festival at his Itwari home on Thursday night with several top politicians, including a couple of MLAs, in his guest list.
Ambekar, who also had guests from Mumbai, was summoned to the police station earlier in the day by senior PI SB Mane who had also issued him a notice under section 149 of criminal procedure code (CrPC). Mane asked Ambekar not to erect any pandal on the road blocking the traffic which he had earlier agreed. Ambekar only removed some portion of the pandal but later blocked the lane once again.
A press release from the police department showed that Ambekar was booked for disobeying police at 6pm on Friday when the festivity was at peak at his residence but the cops did precious little to free the road from his temporary encroachment. TOI is in possession of a picture which showed that Ambekar had completely blocked traffic in the lane of his locality to accommodate his guests.
Deputy commissioner of police, Zone-III,
Avinash Kumar said police had gone in search of Ambekar at his place but he was not to be found.
