DMER trying to get projects for GMCH

Nagpur: The Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) is trying to bring in various projects for the development of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

DMER director Dr Pravin Shingare told TOI the Cancer Institute project that the college has been waiting for since long may finally see the light of the day. “Since the medical education department doesn’t have money, the social justice department has agreed to fund the project (Rs120 crore) with a condition that the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe patients be treated free of cost. But this condition was not acceptable to the DMER. So, now the DMER has approached the Tata Trusts to fund 50% of the project and the remaining will be funded centrally,” said Dr Shingare.

The DMER is also trying to launch the bone registry project in the state. “Bone marrow registry will help patients requiring transplant for blood cancers. It is a statewide project,” said Dr Shingare.

For the Super Speciality Hospital (SSH) attached to the GMCH, Dr Shingare said Rs25 crore has been allocated for development of ‘A’ wing of SSH. Efforts are also on to run the blood round the clock. The DMER will be posting another three technicians for it.
