Couple killed in hit-&-run in Akola, truck driver nabbed
Akola: A farmer couple riding a motorcycle was killed on the Akola-Daryapur road near Kharab village after being hit by a speeding truck early Friday morning. The victims died on the spot, cops said.The deceased have been identified as Vijay Ingle and his wife Pratibha, residents of Kharab. The accident occurred around 5.30am when the couple was on their way to their farmland. According to initial reports, a speeding truck rammed into their motorcycle from behind.The collision was so severe that the woman was thrown nearly 50-60 feet away, while parts of the motorcycle, including the front wheel, were found scattered at a distance. Following the accident, the truck driver fled the scene, triggering outrage among local residents. Angry villagers staged a road blockade for nearly half an hour, demanding immediate arrest of the accused. They insisted that the bodies should not be moved until the driver was apprehended. The protest led to traffic disruption on the road.Acting swiftly, the Civil Lines police launched a search operation and, within a short time, managed to trace and seize the truck. The driver was taken into custody, and further legal action is currently underway.
