Chandrapur: Making a career after marriage is a difficult task for women because most of their time goes in dealing with matters related to the kitchen and kids. However, the right kind of support from the spouse and in-laws can pave the way for women to pursue their dreams, says Mrs India Shilpa Aadam.
Born and brought up in Chandrapur, Shilpa was in the city to visit her parents.
She talked about her future plans, her upcoming international pageant and gave valuable tips to women at the International Women’s Day programme held at Shramik Patrakar Bhawan on Tuesday.
“All that is needed is perseverance, patience and confidence. Focus on your goal and dedicate yourself to achieve it,” she said.
She, however, maintains that support of family and in-laws is the key to success for married women. “My in-laws are highly educated and all of them are in the legal profession. My husband and his family encouraged me to work hard for the pageant and thanks to their support, I was able to win the title,” said Shilpa.
Daughter of a retired government officer, Shilpa got married in Solapur. She went to Lokmanya Kanya School and graduated from FES Girls College. After doing a diploma in fashion and landscape designing, she made it her profession. She lives in Pune and helps her lawyer husband to manage his office.
One of her friends urged Shilpa to give the Mrs India pageant a try and the rest as they say is history. “I was one among the over 2,500 contenders and got selected for the second round which had just 55 contestants. Many more contestants got eliminated in the second and third rounds and just five of us were left in the final round. Wining the final round to become Mrs India is a dream come true,” said Shilpa.
She emphasized that in such competitions, the inner beauty of the soul is equally important as the outer beauty. Her decision to answer questions of the jury in Hindi in the final round gave her the edge over the other contestants, she said.
Shilpa will be representing India in the 2022 Mrs World 2022 pageant in Miami, USA.
After her win, Shilpa started getting offers from the film industry. “I have got a year-long busy schedule and hence, I did not accept any offers from Bollywood. Moreover, I believe that models and film stars don’t have enough time for the society. I want to be a role-model for people instead of becoming a model,” she said.
Shilpa wants to work for the betterment of elderly people, particularly those living in old-age homes. She said she would be more than happy to make a contribution if any NGO needs her help for a good cause.
Earlier, she was feted by the president and secretary of Shramik Patrakar Sangh.
