liver transplant

at New Era Hospital on Thursday. It also happened to be the hospital’s 20th liver transplant from a brain-dead donor.

The organs donated by the family of brain-dead 40-year-old Nilima Raut gave a new lease of life to three patients. She was admitted to New Era Hospital Nagpur on June 12 with brain haemorrhage. After, she was declared brain-dead the same day.

Dr Vibhawari Dani, president of ZTCC, and Veena Wathore, transplant coordinator, guided the hospital. One kidney went to Wockhradt Hospital and eyes went to Mahatme Eye Bank.

The liver transplant team led by Dr Rahul Saxena comprised gastroenterologist Dr Vijendra Kirnake, intensivist Dr Amol Kokas, and anaesthetists Dr Sahil Bansal and Dr Savita Jaiswal. The kidney transplant team was led by nephrologist Dr Shivnarayan Acharya, and uro-surgeons Dr Ravi Deshmukh and Dr Amit Deshpande. The transplant team at New Era was guided by directors Dr Nilesh Agrawal, Dr Anand Sancheti, and Dr Nidheesh Mishra.

The kidney transplant team at Wockhardt was led by Dr Sanjay Kolte and Dr Kiran Vyawahare.
