Cheerful, studious Sanvi wanted to make it big in life

Nagpur: The first words of nine-year-old Adiraj Khobragade after regaining consciousness on a hospital bed were about his elder sister Sanvi. "Is my didi safe?" he whispered, still dazed from the morning crash, when their school collided with a bus. Just a floor above, 14-year-old Sanvi was fighting a losing battle for life inside the ICU at a private hospital, while their family held on to desperate hope in the corridor.Friday morning had started like any other school day for Sanvi and Adiraj at their residence in Shambhu Nagar. The usual rush of getting ready, grabbing a quick bite before the school van's horn pierced the air — signalling it was time to hug their mother goodbye and leave for school.But nobody knew that this was the last time Sanvi would step out of her house. Hardly 30 minutes later, the van carrying her and eight other kids rammed into a bus on Mankapur flyover.Sanvi was first taken to Kunal hospital where Dr Shishir Shrivastava noted she did not have a recordable blood pressure or pulse and suffered severe blunt injuries. Dr Shrivastava said, "I intubated her after resuscitation and haemaccel Infusion was given as she was bleeding internally. We were preparing to take her for an MRI when relatives expressed their willingness to move her to another hospital. Our paramedical staff accompanied her as she was critical. All patients were stabilized in our casualty ward."After being shifted to the second hospital, both Khobragade siblings were undergoing treatment, just a floor apart. But in reality, the distance was much greater than a climb of a few steps. Sanvi was the worst hit among all students in the accident.Her father, a telecom engineer with TCS in Pune, rushed straight from the airport. Doctors tried resuscitation and transfusions, but despite all efforts, Sanvi succumbed in the evening to injuries in her main vessel and pelvic region. Relatives said Sanvi was a promising girl with high ambitions. "She was good in studies, always cheerful and wanted to make it big in life," they said.Adiraj, meanwhile, has undergone surgery and remains stable.
