Amravati: Three members of a family from Nagpur, including a 3-year-old girl, were killed on the Warud-Morshi national highway near Khadka Phata on Tuesday morning.
The victims have been identified as Samadhan Nande (62), his daughter-in-law Kiran (28), and granddaughter Diya (3). Gopal (34), son of the deceased and father of Diya, sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment. All hailed from Vinayak Colony, Kamptee Khairi near Nagpur. According to preliminary police information, the family was travelling in a car from Nagpur to attend a wedding at Alsud Phata in Akola district.
Around 8am, while crossing the Amravati-Pandhurna NH stretch, a sudden tyre burst caused the driver to lose control. The vehicle veered off the road and rammed a roadside tree with tremendous force.
Samadhan died on the spot due to the impact. Kiran and Diya succumbed to their injuries while being rushed to the Rural Hospital in Warud. Gopal, who was driving, suffered multiple fractures and his condition is said to be critical.
Local residents and Khadka sarpanch Rahul Phule immediately rushed to the spot and coordinated relief efforts.
Ambulance driver Praful Jichkar and health worker Abhishek Jadhav shifted the injured and deceased to the hospital promptly.
Benoda (Shaheed) police station of Amravati rural has registered a case and initiated further investigation. Head constable Nilesh Dafde and police constable Jayshri Chavan are investigating the sequence of events, including vehicle condition and road factors.
Relatives and friends have gathered at the Nandes' residence as news of the accident spread, with many expressing shock over the loss of a young mother and her child.
